Michel Bassompierre Unveils ‘Fragile Giants’ on Park Avenue at Park Avenue Day 2025 Ribbon Cutting

On Saturday, May 17, 2025, Park Avenue in New York City transformed into an open-air gallery as French sculptor Michel Bassompierre unveiled his monumental exhibition, Fragile Giants, during the annual Park Avenue Day celebration. The event, held between 34th and 38th Streets, featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4 PM at 38th Street and Park Avenue, marking the official opening of the installation.

Organized in collaboration with the Murray Hill Neighborhood Association (MHNA), Galeries Bartoux, and the Patrons of Park Avenue (POPA), the exhibition showcases nine monumental animal sculptures, including gorillas and polar bears, crafted in Bassompierre’s signature polished bronze and luminous white resin. These sculptures aim to highlight the beauty and vulnerability of wildlife, inviting viewers to reflect on the fragility of nature.

The event drew a diverse crowd of art enthusiasts, local residents, and city officials. Attendees had the opportunity to meet Bassompierre, who engaged with guests and participated in a signing session. The festive atmosphere was further enhanced by live performances, local vendors, and community activities, embodying the spirit of Park Avenue Day.

Fragile Giants will remain on display along Park Avenue until May 2026, offering a year-long opportunity for passersby to engage with Bassompierre’s evocative work. This exhibition not only enriches the city’s cultural landscape but also underscores the importance of environmental conservation through art.

Travelers Takeover Park Avenue!

Bruno Catalano’s first major public exhibition in the U.S. is now on display!

May 11, 2024, New York, NY

Patrons of Park Avenue (“POPA”) is excited to announce its third ever art installation on Park Avenue in the Murray Hill neighborhood of New York City with world-renowned artist, Bruno CatalanoThe Murray Hill Neighborhood Association would like to invite you to the official ribbon cutting event with Bruno Catalano on Park Avenue at 38th Street on Saturday, May 18th at 4pm at Park Avenue Day 2024 with leading international art gallery, Galeries Bartoux.

The “Travelers” series is a series of figurative sculptures that artist Bruno Catalano began in 1995 and continues to work on today. It shows figures frozen in the middle of a journey whose duration, origin and destination remain unknown.

In his work, people from the ordinary world take on a heroic stature. Their monumental scale pays homage to these universal experiences of travel, flight and exile. These individuals carry pieces of life and history in their luggage. Their future is inextricably linked to their roots, keeping them in a precarious balance.

Bruno Catalano depicts human beings torn apart, crossed by a great emptiness that evokes the scars of departures and separations, identities fragmented by trials and tribulations, and shadowy areas in their self-image.

The exhibition features never-before-seen collections of bronze and marble pieces, paying particular attention to the relationship between the sculptures and the textiles, folds and colors that are key features of the Catalano style.

Bags, luggage’s, garments and even the artist’s clay-covered aprons allow the public to plunge into the cloakroom and behind the scenes of creation.

BRUNO CATALANO
Born in Morocco in 1960, he was ten years old when he left the country with his family to settle in Marseille, France. His father trained him as an electrician, and at the age of twenty he began his professional life working on boats for SNCM. From 1991 onwards, he devoted himself to clay as a self-taught artist. In 2004, a formal invention came to his studio. A simple metal casting accident opened a breach in the body of the sculpture. He decided to seize on this accident and made this tear in the material a central element of his creation. His exhibitions of monumental artworks have toured the world, from Singapore airport to Piazza San Marco for the Venice Biennale, via London, Sydney, Paris and elsewhere. brunocatalano.com

Carole A. Feuerman’s hyper realistic swimming sculptures are now on display on Park Avenue in Murray Hill!

April 24, 2023, New York, NY

Patrons of Park Avenue (POPA) is excited to announce its second ever art installation on Park Avenue in the Murray Hill neighborhood of New York City with world-renowned artist, Carole A. Feuerman, and leading international art gallery, Galeries Bartoux.  POPA would like to welcome Carole’s iconic monumental swimmers that have plunged into Park Avenue.

Carole A. Feuerman is an American sculptor and author working in hyperrealism.  Being one of the three artists credited with starting the movement in the late 1970s, she is best known for her figurative works of swimmers and dancers.  She is the only artist to make realistically painted outdoor sculptures and the only woman to sculpt in this style.

“This exhibition is not just about art but about creating a moment of pause and reflection for the viewers.  A unique opportunity to take a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and immerse yourself in a surreal world of art,” said Carole Feuerman.

“We are honored to surprise you with the monumental artworks of hyperrealism pioneer Carole A. Feuerman on the famous Park Avenue malls of New York City. For 30 years we have strived to make art like this accessible to as many people as possible,” said Laura Bartoux of Galeries Bartoux.

“It is an honor to build upon our successful pilot art installation on Park Avenue in Murray Hill with this new showcase. I wholly welcome Carole Feuerman’s work and look forward to elevating New York City’s legacy of artistic excellence,” said Victoria Spagnola, Chairwoman of POPA.

“We are excited to partner with Carole Feuerman and Galeries Bartoux to continue to raise the bar of the Park Avenue malls in the Murray Hill neighborhood, while bringing much needed new energy and excitement back to New York City,” said Jon Harari, Co-Chairman of POPA and CEO & Co-Founder of WindowsWear.

“Carole Feuerman’s hyper realistic swimmers are sure to surprise and delight visitors to Park Avenue, and we are happy to have partnered with Patrons of Park Avenue and Galeries Bartoux to bring this visually striking exhibition to such an important throughway,” said NYC Parks Senior Public Art Coordinator Elizabeth Masella. “This installation speaks to our commitment at NYC Parks to enriching our public spaces with unique, high-quality art through our Art in the Parks program.”

The official ribbon cutting event will take place with Carole Feuerman on Park Avenue at 38th Street on Thursday, April 27th, 2023 at 4pm.

Born and raised outside Paris, France, Idriss B. has shown an interest in art since childhood.  With decades worth of experience helping to create retail and window displays for luxury brands such as Dior, Moncler, Coach, & Michael Kors, Idriss B. launched his unique artistic collection of origami-polygonal shaped animal sculptures in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and now, New York City.

“One of the most beautiful places in the world is New York and it is the perfect place for me to exhibit my work.  It is a hardworking city with a warm family environment, so it is very fitting for people to see and feel the strength of my pieces while bringing the fun to everybody, especially the kids,” said Idriss B.

In bringing his artwork to New York City, Idriss B. has collaborated with POPA, which supports the care, maintenance and planting of the malls of Park Avenue in the Murray Hill neighborhood. The works are exhibited through NYC Parks’ Art in the Parks program, which fosters the creation and installation of temporary public art in New York City, and will be on view until February 2023.

“As Chairwoman of POPA, I’d like to thank Idriss B. for amplifying the beauty and culture of our iconic Park Avenue and installing the first ever art exhibit on the malls of our beloved Murray Hill,” said Victoria Spagnola.

“As CEO & Co-Founder of WindowsWear, I’ve always been impressed with Idriss B.’s work with major luxury brands worldwide, and as Co-Chairman of POPA, I’m thrilled to connect his work with New York City,” said Jon Harari.

“We are happy to partner with Patrons of Park Avenue on their inaugural exhibition and welcome Idriss B.’s colorful, geometric sculptures to New York City through our Art in the Parks program,” said NYC Parks Senior Public Art Coordinator Elizabeth Masella.
